3. Chicham village



Tucked away in the heart of Zanskar, Chicham village is just a few kilometers away from Kibber, the point where the road ends. One can get to Chicham by cable car across River Indus or a three hour long journey on foot. In fact, it is said that walking to Chicham is easier than reaching it by cable car.

Chicham is situated on a cliff face at an altitude of 12000 feet, while Kibber is at a mere altitude of 10,000 feet. That’s 2,000 feet difference in height! In order to reach Chicham, one has to cross a jhula (a traditional wooden bridge) which is one of the biggest in the world. The villagers have been living in these heights for centuries now and have mastered the art of living amidst hardships. The settlement consists of around 80 houses and 200 people who are engaged in farming and animal husbandry among other things.

 Most of the villagers are farmers and they rely on their produce to make a living. La Darcha, the biggest trading fair in Spiti, is held once a year on the first weekend of August. This is where traders come from far and wide to buy and sell their products.

It is situated at an altitude of around 4,300 meters (14,100 ft).

One of the major benefits of vacationing in a caravan is that you don’t need to worry about where to spend the night! The trek is about 60 km long, and takes around 5-6 days to complete. It is definitely worth taking your time to enjoy the natural beauty of the area!

   Roopkund Lake is one of the most famous destinations on the trek. The lake is located at an altitude of 16,500 ft and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It is said that the lake is haunted by the spirits of the people who died there in a mysterious landslide over 600 years ago. The lake is also known as “Skeleton Lake” because of the hundreds of human skeletons that have been discovered there. It is definitely a sight to see!

Chandra Taal is one of the most popular camp sites in Spiti Valley, which is also known as Moon Lake because of its shape resembling that of the moon. It lies in the Lahaul-Spiti region at an elevation of 4,300 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by high mountains with snow-clad peaks on all sides making it look more like a lunar landscape than an earthly one! This makes it one of the most scenic sites in India and people come here just to witness nature’s beauty at its best!

Purulia, West Bengal

Khijadiya Campsite is a well-known camping site near the Chambal River, near Agra. You can enjoy some exciting activities like river rafting and rock climbing at this place. It is known to be one of the best places for adventure seekers as it offers a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed with your friends or family members. The place also has several other attractions like temples, dargahs and monuments from where you can take amazing photographs.

Kanha National Park is one of the most famous wildlife parks in India, which boasts of an abundance of wildlife and bird life at its best. This park is situated in Madhya Pradesh and covers an area of about 10,000 square kilometres (3,861 sq mi). The park has been named after the Kanha River that flows through it, which gets its name from the Sanskrit word for ‘jungle’ or ‘forest’ (????). It is home to tigers and leopards.



Sonmarg, Kashmir

Sonmarg can be a great pick for summer camping, to escape the scorching heat of the torrid cities. It is just a couple of hours drive from Srinagar airport. The WanderBug camp has a mind-boggling location, right beside the Sind river. You can stay in the camp, treating your eyes on the scenic beauty of the vistas around it, or step out to drench your feet in the river water. The decor of each luxury tent at this campsite has a Kashmiri touch along with sit-out facilities. Noteworthy places to visit in Sonmarg are the Thajiwas Glacier and alpine lakes like Kishansar Lake, Gadsar Lake and Vishansar Lake. You can visit Sonmarg at any point of the year, except during the harsh wintertime. You might also like to visit the nearby Kalaroos Caves, about four hours away from Sonmarg.

The best time to visit Sonmarg is from June till October (summer). In winters (December till March), it gets extremely cold here so make sure that you pack warm clothes if you plan on visiting then.

The Great Indian Thar Desert: Pushkar is surrounded by three deserts - the Great Indian Thar Desert, Great Rann of Kutch and Little Rann of Kutch.
