About the experience

The Kyathadevara Gudi Wilderness Camp opens up an opportunity for you to get up close and personal with nature. As the name suggests, it’s everything you can expect out of a camp. It spells adventure and speaks the code of the jungle: respect everything around you.

Itinerary & instructions

Day 1. Drive to BR Hills K Gudi We will pick you up from your doorstep at 6 am or from the airport on the day of departure. Ensure that you are packed and ready to go when we get there. You can get fresh, have a simple snack and experience some in-house entertainment aboard the caravan. The drive from Bangalore to K Gudi is about five hours with several interesting towns and villages along the way. Dusty roads and elevated noise levels slowly give way to quiet stretches and growing greenery as you leave the main city and drive towards K Gudi. We’ve found the perfect place to stop for a hearty South Indian breakfast topped with a glass of steaming filter coffee. Our campsite is located in Jungle Lodges KGudi Wilderness Camp along the fringes of the BRT Reserve. The forests are teeming with over 250 species of birds, including the velvet-fronted nuthatch, gold-fronted chloropsis, blossom-headed parakeet and the malabar whistling thrush – so it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever get enough of this place. Jeep rides into the forests with naturalists to point out anything you’ve missed is part of the programme. We go out twice into the jungle in the jeep – once at dawn and once just before dusk falls. B.R. Hills is also a destination that can be explored on foot
Day 2. Stay at BR Hills K Gudi Wake up to the tune of bird calls resounding from the valley among hills. Take a brisk walk around the camp as the sun’s rays filter through the thick foliage. It’s the ideal lighting for Instagrammable pictures. On the safaris, you have the opportunity to spot elephants and rarely leopards. Watch spotted deer grazing and a myriad species of birds chirping around. Take a walk along the property and try your hand at skipping stones or relax in a hammock to feel the gentle breeze as you take in the splendid views around you. Evenings are relaxed: you can opt for a campfire (not available in summers and rains) or watch a wildlife movie in the audio-visual room, and unwind. Dinners are served at the Gol Ghar in typical JLR-style. If you plan on staying a little longer with us, a trip to B.R. Hill’s can be arranged for. A visit to the mystical Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple which teeters on the edge of a cliff is a must. Sloth bears, wild dogs, barking deer, spotted deer, wild boars, Malabar giant squirrels and an entire host of wild animals, perhaps, might persuade you to stay a while (as written in JLR site) District: Chamarajanagar
Day 3. Return to Bengaluru, Karnataka, India Try to catch the sunrise for that ‘perfect moment’ that you want to save away as a memory. After a delicious breakfast we will start our return journey. On the way to Bangalore you may want to stop at the historical city of Mysore. Visit the Mysore palace that holds stories of the royal family. Continue on your trail of spotting migratory bird species with a visit to the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary if time permits. The caravan will drop you off at your home or the airport.
